From Outdated to Elevated: Transforming a Senior Living Dining Space with ODFC

In the heart of Lynchburg, Virginia, Runk & Pratt at Liberty Ridge Senior Living Facility stood at a crossroads. Tasked with modernizing their dining area to better meet the ever-evolving expectations of their residents, the goal was to update the well-loved space in a way that balanced form and function.

With this in mind, the Runk & Pratt team turned to Old Dominion Furniture Co. for a transformative collaboration. From the initial design concept to final installation, our team’s commitment to quality, customer service, and unparalleled craftsmanship played a pivotal role in reimagining the expansive space. Together, we achieved a final result everyone was proud of: a beautiful, functional space where current and future residents could enjoy many meals to come.

The Challenge: Updating an Aging Space to Meet Modern Needs

Runk & Pratt faced a significant challenge: the Liberty Ridge multi-purpose dining area was heavily used and had become outdated, no longer meeting the demands of today’s senior residents, who seek spaces that combine comfort with style. This central hub was not only a place for dining but also served as a vital area for living and socializing, making it an essential aspect of the overall community atmosphere.

The goal was clear—redefine this versatile space to cater not just to the current needs but also to anticipate and accommodate future demands. This update was essential to ensure that the area continued to be a core part of the Liberty Ridge community, enhancing daily interactions and supporting a vibrant social life among residents. At the same time, Runk & Pratt wanted prospective residents to be able to clearly envision themselves enjoying the dining space, so the redesign would be a valuable opportunity to boost the facility’s appeal.

Why Runk & Pratt Chose ODFC: A Decision Driven by Reputation

The decision to partner with Old Dominion Furniture Co. was influenced heavily by a strong recommendation from a trusted source—a long-term collaborator who had previously worked with us for several successful restaurant projects. Impressed by ODFC’s portfolio and our longstanding reputation for delivering both exceptional quality and reliable customer service, Runk & Pratt was confident in their choice.

Creating a Modern and Functional Dining Area

The project began with a series of in-depth discussions to align ODFC’s design capabilities with Runk & Pratt’s vision for Liberty Ridge. The redesign focused on creating a welcoming, homelike atmosphere that did not sacrifice functionality for aesthetic appeal.

Custom banquettes, flexible seating arrangements, and materials like durable laminates and easy-to-clean vinyls were selected to ensure the space was both beautiful and practical, accommodating the varied needs of independent and assisted living residents.

Collaborating to Refine the Design Vision

Throughout the design process, our team worked closely with Runk & Pratt to perfect every last detail. From selecting finishes to finalizing the layout, each decision was made with careful consideration of both aesthetic appeal and practical utility. Rounds of feedback and adjustments were integral, ensuring that ODFC created senior living dining solutions that were not only visually appealing but also met all requirements for functionality. With this approach, ODFC was able to streamline the installation process, minimizing the disruption to the residents’ daily lives.

Success and Ongoing Collaboration: Achieving Success and Long-Term Impact

The result of this collaboration was a beautifully revamped dining area that has become a cornerstone of the Liberty Ridge community. The new space not only meets the current standards of senior living but sets a new benchmark for what a dining area in a senior living facility can be.

Even more exciting, the project’s success has led to ongoing collaborations, with ODFC creating custom hospitality furniture for three additional dining facilities within the Runk & Pratt portfolio of properties, further cementing a strong partnership that will surely stand the test of time.

A Better Future for Senior Living in Lynchburg

Runk & Pratt’s journey with Old Dominion is a testament to how a focus on quality, customer-centric service, and superior craftsmanship can transform spaces in ways that truly matter. Since the completion of the Liberty Ridge dining area transformation, the updated space has not only enhanced the daily experiences of its residents but has also proved to be a key factor in the facility’s ongoing success and appeal. Their success story highlights the tangible benefits of thoughtful custom design and expert craftsmanship, which are trademarks of Old Dominion Furniture Co.
